Philadelphia is a great city for food! We would definitely recommend checking out one of Stephen Starr's restaurants while you're in town. Buddakan is especially fun for Asian fusion, and the roof deck at Continental is perfect for enjoying summer nights. Just be sure to get a reservation in advance if you want to go for dinner! Tequilas is a good option for tasty upscale Mexican (Jenn recommends the molcajete de pollo!), and is also very close to the Warwick Hotel. If you manage to save room for dessert, you can't go wrong with the gelato at Capogiro.
If you're looking for a spot to grab a drink, Rum Bar is our current favorite, with half price mojitos all day every Monday. Devil's Alley is a good choice for bar food. And if you've got some time to kill, Monk's Cafe has the best burgers and mussels in town. They don't take reservations, but there's a fantastic selection of Belgian beer to drink while you wait.
No trip to Philly would be complete without a cheesesteak. Those seeking atmosphere should visit Pat's, which we recommend over its controversial cross-the-street rival Geno's. However, some say that both Jim's (located at 400 South Street) and Cosmi's make a better steak.
In addition to eating and drinking, we're big fans of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Japanese teahouse exhibit is fun to visit, and the view of the city from the Rocky steps is worth checking out. Frequently overlooked but also very cool is Penn's Museum of Archeology and Anthropology, which is just over the bridge in University City. Take a walk around Penn's campus while you're there.
Philadelphia, the nation's second capital, is an old and historic city. History fans will enjoy Independence Park. This national park, complete with urban forest rangers, is home to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. The nearby United States Mint at Philadelphia has a fascinating (according to Jeff) self-guided tour, but be sure to check hours and security restrictions before visiting. Camera phones are not welcome at the mint.
